Re: racthet shifter
well, you can put a ratch shifter in there, u just have to make sure your shift kit isn't one of those kit's that require u to shift all the time. kinda like my car is set up. here's what's on my car for tranny set up

**note i have a th400 in my car,so it be the same just have to be tranny specific.

Trans info (all less then 100 miles on it but bullet proof almost)
All inside are TCI Race Master kit
Big Hayden RV trans cooler
Jegs 10" 3000 stall
flexable tranny dip stick
Hurst th400 swap in 82-92 Camaro
B & M Ratching shifter,or what they say u tap/slap into next gear.LOL

The is an automatic, and the shift kit is set up for an auto trans. i can either shift it manually if i choose or just drop into drive and go. There's pics of my car in my profile. One of the pics shows the interior where u can see the shifter. The original center console is still there and not damaged.
Hope this helps. Any other questions just give a shout.

Re: racthet shifter
I had a MegaShifter in my car but didn't like it. I now use a ProRatchet shifter.

btw, what does the shifter have to do with it? with a ratchet shifter, you still put it in OD and go. the ratchet shifter doesn't allow you any better control until you modify the tranny. if you put it in first, the tranny will still shift to second. certain shift kits change this.

i have a megashifter in my car and love it. i also have a transgo shiftkit that will allow me to hold the gear as long as i want. so even with a stock shifter i can still hold first.

so if ive just got a b&m stage 2 shift kit it would still shift by itself?

Re: racthet shifter
I have the B&M kit in mine and it doesn't shift until you do or you can put it in drive and go. To be honest, it bangs pretty hard into gear and if I was still driving the old hooptie on the street I wouldn't like it. 87 Iroc, I'm glad to hear you like the pro ratchet as that's the shifter I've pretty much settled on getting. I'm stuck right now shifting with the stock shifter and it BLOWS big time
