will a 2ndgen 7.5 work in a thirdgen rearend housing?

I have not seen a 2nd gen with anything other than an 8.5 10 bolt, and maybe a few early 70's 12 bolts by very rare exception.
I have only seen the 7.5 used in H-body cars in the 70's, such as the Monza, Skyhawk, Sunbird, Starfire cars...
