Re: how do you identify a 700r4

700R4 was started in 83 or 84 i believe, and in 92 or 93 renamed to 4l60, and then later on went electronic with the 4l60e by getting rid of the TV cable for the tranny, i don't know the dates on that, but i do know that the 4l60/4l60e IS a 700R4 with a new name so i've been told. As far as identifying or giving you RPOs...they are probably different but one RPO i know of because of my berlinetta is MD8.

Re: how do you identify a 700r4

700r4 actually started in '82.
it wasn't put into 3rd gens until '84
they changed the name to 4l60 around '88 or '89. possibly '90.
in '94, they went to the 4l60e which is the electronic valve body.

the later units,'88 and up, had updates that made them better than the earlier units.
