Tranny Problems? Help!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 1985 Camaro z28 with a 700r4 tranny. Ive had it for about two years, and the tranny has begun to slip and decided to replace with a rebuilt one. I need to now how to distinguish between other tranny's and am thinking about upgrading the torque converter and needed sugestions for which one i could use. Could I use a tranny from an later year like from an 87 and up, or is there a difference. Im new to major mechanical issues that dont pass tune ups and oil changes. Would very much appreciate the help THANKS.

Re: Tranny Problems? Help!!!!!!!!!!!

You would actually benifit from getting a later 700r4. GM redesigned the tranny around 87 i believe so that it doesnt give that jolt when you shift it into gear from park. It will prolong the life of the tranny. Im sure there are more improvements in later 700r4s but that is the one that sticks out in my mind. So to answer your question any 700r4 will work from any camaro or firebird but the later the better.
