Quick T5 question
I broke the mainshaft in my t5 and am unable to find any more v8 t5s in my area. I can get ahold of one from a 4 cyl s10. Will the mainshaft and gears fit in my case. I just need to get the car running i know it wouldent hold if i beat on it.
Thx.

Re: Quick T5 question
the spline count from the 4 cyl t5 will be different than a v8 t5. I believe the 4 cyl will be 14 splines and the v8 is 28 splines.

Re: Quick T5 question
I was talking about the mainshaft not the imput shaft. Thought they were all the same spline count.

Re: Quick T5 question
why don't you just buy a used v-8 t-5 mainshaft? i don't know a price but there are places they can be purchased from.
i could be wrong, but i think the speedo location might be different on the s-10 t-5's.

Re: Quick T5 question
Just make sure to get a mainshaft from a f-body T5. Doesn't matter if it's from a V6 or V8 T5, as long as it's from a f-body, which will ensure it's the right length, and has the right spline count for the slip yoke. Also, I'm not 100% certain on this, but I think the non-WC mainshafts might be different from the WC ones. There's an ebay seller named MMerlin or something like that, that always has used T5 parts for sale. Probably even easier than that would be to post an ad in the parts wanted section here. I mean when you think about it, how many TGO guys have grenaded T5's? And it's usually not the mainshaft that blows up. 3rd gear and the cluster gear are usually the hardest ones to find still intact. All the V6 and S10 trannys will have different gears than your V8 one. The only ones that have a lot of the same gears would be the Mustang V8 T5's with the 2.95 1st gear. There's bound to be a few guys on the boards here with blown up T5's that still have a good mainshaft to sell.
