87 v6 to a 84 Trans Am
Sorry guys if this has been asked, but I am brand new to the site and fairly new at this car thing. But, my brother is giving me his 87 Camaro (2.8 v6, MFI, 4 speed AT). I was wondering if y'all knew if that Transmission would fit on an 84 Pontiac Trans Am? Thanks!

yeah...its an 84 Firebird Trans Am, so a 305 V8, 4 barrell Carb. I got it a while back as a project car cause the engine was good, but the trans bites...someone put in a 3 speed (while, if what I have read is correct, it came standard with a 700r4) but messed up the conversion...now the trans has gone to the great Garage in the Sky, while my white TA sits in the garage. I was talking with my brother, and he was getting rid of his camaro, and I just was hoping. I will see if I can post some pics sometime soon...thanks for replying so fast!

Right, won't fit....
Same "model" of trans (700-4R), but different bolt patterns, as well as weenier internals. The 6-cyl version is trimmed down quite a bit inside, less clutches and everything else, probably for gas mileage.
