Confirm tech advice?
Hi everyone,
I stoke with the tech at Comp Cams this morning and asked what stall he recommended. He said with my XFI-268 cam, I should go with a 2200-2500 RPM stall. He also said that closer to 2200 would be better. I've been searching the forums for a setup similar to mine but haven't had a lot of luck. So I was just wondering if you all think his advice sounds right for my application?
FYI - my car has a stock 700R4 & factory 3.27 gears. Driven on the street only.
Thanks!!!

I don't think you'll get better advise than straight from the cam manufacturer. Your cam makes the power and if it doesn't start making power till 2500 rpm or whatever then you need the stall converter he recomends. It won't make much difference in drivability (not that high of a stall) but it will give you way more get up and go off the line.

Re: Confirm tech advice?
depends on what you want to do with the car...street car aka more of a driver/cruiser then go 2500 stall. Although more wouldnt be bad.
I ran a 2800 on my stock cammed L98 and it was perfect. The stock L98 made peak torque at around 3200rpms. My converter put me near peak torque off the line for maximum acceleration and jump off the line. It showed with some 1.70-1.72 60 foots, but i raced my car alot at the strip but drove it more on the street than anything

Re: Confirm tech advice?
Best for acceleration would be at or just before torque peak. I wouldn't do anything below 2800 unless it was a diesel truck. As mentioned above, 2800 even works well with a stock cammed TPI engine. An LT1/LS1, it's common to do 3400-3600. Some of those guys go closer to 4000-4200 for maximum performance while still shifting at 6500rpm. Goodluck!

Re: Confirm tech advice?
I dunno why he recommended that low of a stall speed. I would recommend 2200-2400 for a STOCK cam and heads engine. You should get something in the 2800 rpm range.

Re: Confirm tech advice?
tech guys usually go by when the cam starts making power as their catalog suggests.... but thats not really where the optimum stall speed needs to be.
they also seem to be conservative on their recommendations, from cam selections to converters
