x2 - they're usually around 4500, which is at/slightly above peak power.

I am going to say 5,000-5,200 rpm.

What about about daily driving in the city.. Ie... Stop at the light, you slightly accelerate.. when does the first shift occur around?

Well it varies. The more you press the gas the longer it takes to shift. Just driving normal it probably shifts around 2500 - 3000.

WOT shift should probably be upper 4000's. By 5000 or higher, you're losing power. Not to say that any person's car isn't shifting at 5000 or higher, just saying it should be a little lower.

It should shift around 4,500, but MOST of the stock TPI cars I have seen shift around 5,000-5,200. I have seen alot of TBI trucks actually go into the orange hash marks after 4,500 rpm to about 4,700 before shifting. Seems GM like to shoot a little high on the WOT shifts, especially on the 1-2.

Re: Auto : Approx. RPM SHOULD it shift?

The reason I asked this question is because I installed a Sonnax TV Correction Spring that goes between the TV cable at the throttle body link and puts a spring on the end to help stop the WOT loosing it's adjustment.

WITHOUT IT.. my car shifts (STOP.. Slowly pressing the gas in regular day to day driving from light to light) around 2000-2500rpm. The moment I pop on the spring, it forces that shift now between 3500-4500rpm!!

Shifts are VERY Harsh.. I can get adjust the tv closer to the front of the throttle body but then the shifts NEVER get back to 2000-2500rpm simply because I've moved the cable as far forward as it will go.. And now the shift is SO SMOOTH it's like I never had a shift kit installed..

So for now i'm removed the correction spring and back to 2000-2500rpm.

with factory linkage hook-ups and throttle body hook-ups, you don't need the correction package, as there's nothing wrong to "correct".

Re: Auto : Approx. RPM SHOULD it shift?

If you want it to shift at a higher rpm give it more gas or shift it manually. You can also install a manual valve body to give you complete control with the shifter.

Re: Auto : Approx. RPM SHOULD it shift?

if I decided to keep it installed and get used to it, could it do any damage to the tranny with that harsh shifts, or the engine shifting up to 4500rpm for it's first casual driving?

My mild cam moved my power range up into my RPM's.. So I usually can drive into 5000rpm

Mine shifts at 4,600-5,100 or there about's for first and second.I always thought it was weird how early it shifted compared to my chevy truck which shifts at perfect redline everytime.

Re: Auto : Approx. RPM SHOULD it shift?

4000ish range? Something wrong there. I've had multiple 3rd gen L98's and they all shifted at 5000-5500 RPM. We have wide ratio transmissions. Shifting at 4500 is too low.

As for slow driving in town, I'd say about 2000-2200 RPM or so it makes the shift. Depends on the gas pedal.
