12 bolt rear in an 84

I picked up an 84 trans am with a 700r4. Guy selling it didnt know much it was his grandfathers car. It has a 12 bolt rear and im 100% sure its not stock. Any way to tell what year it is or if it has an lsd? sorry if this has been answered before couldnt find anything in the search. Finding out a lot about this car after I got it. Paid 600 and drove it home, then found out it had a 350, and know a 12 bolt rear. Not bad for 600 bucks right?

Yup; if there's a 12-bolt in one of these cars, you can be SURE it's not stock, because the 12-bolt was discontinued LONG before 84.
what year it is
Why? What for? Who cares? What could you DO with that info? Of greater usefulness (like, ANY usefulness at all) would be whether it's a car (good) or a truck (junk) 12-bolt, and if it's a car one, whether it's a Chevy (c-clip) or BOP (bolt-in axle) one; and what they had to do to it and/or the rear suspension to get it in there. Or, if it's an aftermarket one that's actually designed to directly fit in these cars using the stock suspension, which mfr it is, and what all is inside it.
Any way to tell ... if it has an lsd?
Sure, same as any other rear end.... take off the cover and look. Count the gear teeth while you're there, so that your next post won't be about "how do I tell what gear it has".

Take pics of what you find both from outside the housing and inside it, might be interesting to alot of people here.

I knew it wasnt stock and never implied that it came in the car. I wanted to know if there was anything different to identify it from the stock rear end. But thanks for the reply

Well if it's a 12-bolt, then the number of bolts identifies it pretty clearly as being different from stock....

What's inside it?

if the 350 and rear are good then you got a great deal!
