700r4 2nd-3rd slip

A buddy of mine has a 3rd gen camaro with a 5.0 tbi 700r4 It is slipping between 2nd and 3rd under light driving or if you are hard on it. You have to actually take your foot off the gas to get it to shift. Rebuild or possible tv cable out of adjustment? This is a trans out of a wrecking yard after his other trans lost overdrive.

Re: 700r4 2nd-3rd slip

ya i went around a turn and punched it and drifted it and after that my car would rev in first all the way to 3500 with very light driving. and when i touch the pedel half way or more it wont shift but just rev all the way till i let off the gas. i lost second and overdrive.. rebuild huh? i also drove my car in overdrive all the time. didn't know you had to have it in drive on the streets and thennn overdrive on the freeway. could that have messed it up also. stock tranny just about 200,000 miles on it and everything else

Who the heck told you your supposed to drive in low d D on city streets? They are a fool. When its in [D] that is where you should be driving it. Now if you are on steep hills or mountains then yes you are supposed to use low D IE: 3rd gear.

Re: 700r4 2nd-3rd slip

the band inside the trans is activated in 2nd gear and 4th gear. this band is known for burning up and possibly causing this slipping between 2nd and 3rd.

ewwww not what I wanted to hear. I'm going to try the tv cable adjustment from here in the faq section then if that doesn't fix it lucas transmision treatment. I'm affraid to drain the fluid and refill it, because I could drain out anything holding it together as it were. We were always told not to do a trans service on a car that is said to have slipping or shifting problems because it may not drive afterwards. The fluid isn't bad though doesn't really smell burnt and its pretty much still red in color. Maybe just a little off out of the bottle color.
