chosing t56 clutch

hello i got a cracked clutch when i bought my T-56 transmission out of a 94 camaro, im not sure how long it will last so im just gona get a new one. im just using the stock flywheel. iv looked around but im not sure what would be good to get; i have no use for something that can handle 1200 ft/lbs since im just gona run a stock lt-1 out of a 94 camaro on the other hand i want something that can handle the abuse and wont slip when its brand new. from what i understand the trannys are rated at about 450ft/lbs so i figure if i can get a clutch that is rated at about that kind of power capability since i do plan on modifying the engine soon after i get the car going. my use of it will be just a summer every here and there car that will see the streets just as much as the track. thanks for any help

Re: chosing t56 clutch

If you're really gonna leave it just plain stock then I would leave leave the clutch as a just plain stock replacement. Unless you just feel the need to spend more money, then upgrade as you feel comfortable.

If you have no plans to "go big", then running a stock clutch will do just fine for you.

Re: chosing t56 clutch

Theres few companies that will sell you JUST the clutch disc. And the ones that do, charge about 80% of the clutch "kit" price, which includes a pressure plate, throwout bearing, and the disc itself.

I had to go through the same thing, so before i dished out nearly $400 to buy a new one, i decided to look for used stuff.

Try a few other camaro sites. Camaroz28.com and Ls1tech.com are good places, as the majority of those guys are running LT1, LS1 engines.

I got a never before used disc and throwout bearing, and a 500 mile pressure plate, for $100.

Mcleod has a new "kit" that includes the P/P,Disc,Bearing,Pilot Bearing and Pilot tool. Super Street Pro is good for 500Hp. You can buy from Mcleod Direct.
