Where 2 start the rebuild on my posi rear

Hi everyone, i just wanted to say I'm really impressed with the great community this site has going. But down to business, I have an 85 Z28 with a 2.73 non posi drum rear. I just yanked a limited slip rear with disk brakes and 3.23 gears out of a 83 camaro that had a crossfire engine in it, from the local you-pull-it for 80$ (took me 8 months 2 find ). My question is what should i do to start rebuilding the rear. I'm taking care of the rotors and brakes myself, that part I know, but i don't know anything about rebuilding differentials, and next to nothing about checking axles except how to see how many splines i have. My 3 main questions are this:
1. will the speedo read the same with the new gears?
2. Do I need anything to swap from drum to disk brakes besides the emergency brake cable.
3. should I bother looking into a new set of ring gears or axels or the such for the rear.
Now my 85 is bone stock engine wise, has a 305 4 barrel with 98,000 miles on it. I don't have to worry about making this race worthy or the such, i just really wanted a posi, and who can pass up both a posi and rear disk for 80$.
TY for your time, ill take any suggestions, and look into any links on "how to rebuild" or rebuild kits for sale.

Re: Where 2 start the rebuild on my posi rear

1. No; you'll need the right speedo gears.

2. You'll need the master cyl and the "combo valve". Those brakes will work even less than they usually do, which is basically not at all, with the drum stuff still there. That'll essentially turn them to giant cast-iron unsprung dead weights (which is what they pretty much already are).

3. Probably not... checking the axles for wear where they ride in the bearings would be wise though, and putting in new bearings and seals. Although if the axles aren't PERFECT where the bearing goes, they'll just eat new bearings all over again, and leak, no matter how many times you put in new bearings and seals.
