TKO 500 or 600
Got a couple of questions about the TKO 500/600
1. Are the 500 and the 600 the same thing, just different internals?
2. Exactly what can I use from my T-5 Setup (Clutch, The cylinders, Cross member)
3. Where to I buy one
4. If you have one, how is it?
Thanks

Re: TKO 500 or 600
the 500 is rated for 500ft/lbs
the 600 is rated for 600ft/lbs
I dont know what makes the other stronger/weaker.
you can get it from FortesPartsConnection
They use a stock style clutch, they use the factory style bellhousing with the help of an adapter plate. You need to buy, from fortes, a crossmember adapter kit or buy an aftermarket crossmember. Hydraulics work, you need a ford c6 yoke for the driveshaft. The stock shifter on the tko ends up a bit too far forward, so you will need a stick to accommodate this.

What stick?
Mine is in the car, my car was originally an auto then i cut a hole for the T56, so i wasnt sure if it was just a little off because of the 5 spd i run now. Just checked inside the car i see what you mean about the shifter is further forward(haven't installed the shifter yet).
I'm guessing your saying once i install the shifter its going to be too far forward and hit the ash trey? Where can i get this shifter bar?

Don't know about the newer Tremecs but for my older TKO I got a shifter handle and **** from Jegs for a Mustang. Hurst. About $70. Bolted right on and looks pretty darn good. Chrome handle, white **** with five speed pattern. Also the two trannys you've listed have different gear ratios. The 500 has lower first, second, and third gears.

Re: TKO 500 or 600
i got one of those modified hurst shifters that fortes sells. Then i just used a straight stick. sits right where it should be. the shifter was a little problematic, i dont know if he revised his design, but it used to bind up on the lower shifter boot and pop out of 2nd and 4th. I had to cut the lower boot hole a little larger
Re: TKO 500 or 600
The difference is the gear ratios. The 500 has a lower first gear similar to the T-5 somewhere around 3.27. The 600 has a higher first gear around 2.68, so it dosent have as much torque multiplication in first gear. Thats why its rated a little higher. I have a TKO 600 bought from Fortes. It came with the adapters to fit a third gen. The newer TKO's use a different case and bolt right up to a GM bellhousing(non T-5). Keisler sells a kit also.
