My car is a 86 z28. tpi motor with a 4 speed automatic .the problem is some time's when i put it in drive it make's a noise .it sounds like its coming from where the converter is when this happens the car stalls ? but this dont happen all the time ..I also have problems with the car not going into over drive can the converter cause problems with the shifting points?

 

sounds like the lock up valve is sticking. Some times it sticks close = no lock up, sometimes it sticks open= stalls motor.

check next time, how many times does it feel like its shifting?
It should feel like 4 shifts.
1-2 2-3 3-4 lock up.

 

2 to 3.. once it hits 3 rd gear it doesnt shift i can go 100 and still wont shift what causes this?can it be the converter i have no slippage in the tranny as far as taking off no hesa tation

could the converter be going into lock up to early??

 

sounds like convertor mine is doing same thing but i beat on my convertor and it is a cheapy like stock

 

all fixed now..I cant believe how fast this car is lol I fixed the problem.. loose trans line was the demon i had.. but i can tell you this the car chirps the tires shifting and at a 40 roll i can still burn them lol I had fun playing with the motor over the winter. i bet my wife she couldnt grab the money i tapped to the dash lol when she tried i dropped it in first and she was pinned to the seat lmfao ...GOD I LOVE THIRD GENS
