4l60-E transmission problems
4l60-E transmission problems
i really hate to ask this question on this board but im desperate for help. i have a 4l60-E in my 03 suburban and today i was driving and it i guess went out of gear and would not go back in and now it whines in park and every other gear and doesnt move or go into gear. what could this possibly be i know that its hard to tell with out seeing the car or hearing the noise, but i read it could be the torque converter. once again i appologize for asking this question on a camaro board but i need help.
Re: 4l60-E transmission problems
What is the condition of the fluid? If it is very brown (burnt), it could be clogging the filter, which can do what you state. If this is true, then the transmission could be gone. Pull the pan and check to see what you find on the bottom of the pan away from the magnet. If the pan is clean and little if any band/clutch material is found on the bottom of the pan, then do a "complate" change of transmission oil, and a new filter here might save it. If you can write your name with your finger in the bottom of the pan (this will be band and/or clutch material), then the transmission is most likely history.
Re: 4l60-E transmission problems
yea thats what im thinking now, we changed the filter today and the fluid was nasty kinda brownish and pieces of small metal particles in the bottom and it didnt work. only has i think 122 thousand on it but we never changed the filter in it and most likely the original owner before us never did either. but thanks for your help, looks like tommarow il be taking it out.
