i have gear whine in 1st, 2nd and third gears. auto parts store told me to use atf fluid dex 3. its a non w/c. my first camaro in '99 was a t5 ,but i don't remember hearing whining sounds in 2nd and third.

 

My car does it too. I worked with a kid that was big into mustangs, and he said that these trannys have more straight cut gears in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. He said 4th and 5th are helical cut.

I dont know if there is any truth to that.

 

all forward gears in a t-5 are helical cut. the only one that isn't is reverse. doesn't matter if it is camaro, firebird, or mustang. there shouldn't be any whine in any gear but there are several causes.

 

what are the causes?

 

are you sure its not the clutch

ie a centerforce dual friction clutch

 

i have no clue. i bought the t5 with the clutch and bolted it right up. it gets queit in 4th. ist -3rd sounds just like vreverse gear
