I need help with this 700R4 rebuild...
Hello everybody,
I have been rebuilding my first transmission over the past few weeks, working on it mostly over the weekends. Anyway, I think it is going ok so far, but I do have a couple of questions. This is for a 1990 700R4 by the way.
With the front pump bolted on, how hard should it be to turn the input shaft? It seems a little tight to me, but I figure it might be cause everything is pretty dry, (compared to how it normally would be) plus I have sticky assembly goo inside. If this is not normal, then I have a problem, but I have double checked and can't find anything that looks wrong. The drums all seem seated in all the way.
I can't find one of the damn accumulator springs. Either I lost it, or whoever rebuilt it last left it out. The transmission had a shift kit in it from the previous owner, and that is all I know. From what I understand, this gives harder shifts? Does it put more strain on the transmission? Are the springs interchangeable from 1-2 to 3-4? If one of them was left out for some shift kit, which one would it have been?
This is for a low horsepower vehicle. I just need it to last, but I did like the way it shifted back when it worked good with the shift kit and all that.
I guess that is about all I have for now. Next time I get a chance I am going to do the pressure checks. Hopefully I can have something figured out on that spring by then, so that I can forge ahead.
Thanks for any replies.
