rear end help

hey i have a 9 bolt rear end on my 88 350 trans am gta..... i have the stock 3.23 gears..... i was wondering if i used the 3.70 gears from the slp cars would i benefit over the stock gears..... look at the mods in my sig..... would i benefit any from switching to 3.70 gears.... and which one of these gears would work better... here is a website... i have a probuilt tranny with 2400 stall and a transgo shift kit with a mild cam

Re: rear end help

Well if you have a 9-bolt rear you have 3:27 gears and not the 10-bolt 3:23, simple mistake. My opinion is why make a gear change if it is not broke. If you have to do it fine, both 3:70's will work. I would go with the Motive gears.

Re: rear end help

Well it depends. What kind of tires do you run, is this a car you drive frequently and what kind of times does it run at the track. Obviously the steeper gears give you a mechanical advantage, but it you already have enough power to completely fry the tires off the line it might not have a very noticable difference

Re: rear end help

i run stock tires its my daily driver car... i get the car close to 12.9 with my mods... my dad told me that 3.70s would wake my car up... and make it faster...... its either a 3.27 or 3.23 im not sure.....

Re: rear end help

If its a 9 bolt then its 3.27 gears. The good thing is that means you have a 3 series carrier as long as thats the gear ratio you actually have. If the car is your daily driver I don't know if that is the best route to go. Yes the ratio change will make the car more responsive, but it will also hurt your fuel economy and you will have more traction issues off the line.

Re: rear end help

I have the 3.7's in my car. They launch hard off the line, and for gas mileage, its not to bad. When I am cruising at 70 mph the tach says 2200.
