Newbie Shift Kit Question.

Hey guys,
I have question about a shift kit, I bought an 84 firebird (pick it up tomorrow)that is in great condition the owner says it has a shift kit on it. now i noticed when it drops from 1st to 2nd its a pretty hard drop almost like popping the clutch (sorry if im not making any sense... i dont get the purpose of the shift kit) it dosent seem like a slip to 2nd at all its like 1st........BAM 2nd.........smallerBam...3rd.....even smaller... is this normal for a shift kit or is adjustment needed.. any ideas?

this is the link that breaks down how to adjust the tv cable. Only takes about 30 seconds.
