Aluminium driveshaft yoke

I purchased an alum. driveshaft off ebay last year. The yoke had the right number of splines but the when compared to the yoke from my steel shaft the thickness of the splined tube was greater and the bevel was a little different. At any rate, it didn't want to slip into the trannny.

I wondered about mating the stock yoke to the alum. shaft but it looked as though there could be some contact between the yoke and the front end of the shaft if I was to get enough air under the car. I'm not in the habit of of "Dukes of Hazzarding" my cars but.... I sent both shafts out to a driveline shop but they weren't much help with the yoke. Although the guy did check it for balance and said it was perfect.

Anyway, I put the driveshaft up in the mezanine at work and haven't looked at it since. I've since seen a lot of the shafts for sale on Ebay with, what looks like, the steel yokes attached and a lot of others with a shorter looking yoke like the one I got. Is there an issue? Thanks,
Jon

I also meant to ask; how much torque can an alum. shaft handle before it shreds? Thanks,
Jon

You don't say if the shaft is third or fourthgen--or if the yoke is stock. My experience (I sold 60+ JG1 shafts) is with the former. The only fitment problem with the OE yoke was when it was rusty (inside and/or out) or was otherwise gummed up. I'd suggest you thoroughly clean it, then lube it with some tranny fluid and give it another try.

Re: Aluminium driveshaft yoke

The shaft is from a 3rd Gen. Initially, I wondered if the yoke was perhaps from something else. I'll have another look at this next week sometime and try some extra lube. My question though is, can I put the yoke from the steel shaft on the alum one?

Yes, i think they are the same.

Try lubing it again, i almost gave up on 1 driveshaft it just would not go into the tranny. Finally with a rubber mallet on the back of it i got it to go in.
