What fluid does an 83 T5 use?

What fluid does an 83 T5 use?
two different parts stores said two different things, one said that the tranny uses ATF the other say gear oil, does anyone know for sure what the 83 T5 uses? And what oil do you guys like to use?

The 83-87 T5's recommend gear oil for fluid, while the 88-92 T5's recommend ATF.

I say ATF. I know a guy who put 90WT in his T5 and it would not shift.
