700R4 VSS issue

Ok, let me see if I can make a long story short. I have been having an issue where my speedo doesn't work all the time. First it started off by only working once the engine warmed up. After a long trip, things changed. The next issue is that the speedo would bounce around within about 10 mph of what I was driving, thus causing the TCC lockup to click on and off. Now I am lucky to get the speedo to work at all, and no TCC lockup.

Bought a new VSS, since that is what my check engine light was stating. A buddy and I jacked the car up, and switched the VSS. Now I am not a dummy, but it appears that the gear only goes on the VSS one way, and the sensor only goes back into the tranny one way. With the new VSS install, nothing. Drove the car for about 60 miles and it never worked at all.

After looking at both the new one and the old one, they both seem to be the exact same sensor. The old sensor has alot of play in the shaft part of it, where the new one doesn't.

Any ideas?

As I am not a mechanic, is it possible that the other gear in the tranny could have moved causing all this issue? I don't know the exact position that either of them are supposed to be in, but I just find it strange that the brand new VSS doesn't work at all, or doesn't appear to be working.

Please help, as this is my daily driver and I am worried of messing something else up, as I have alot of Highway driving to do with this baby.

Re: 700R4 VSS issue
Ok, I have since put the old sensor back into the car, and it now works on and off like it had before. The gears looked ok. After some driving, I have noticed that with the old sensor, it seems like it tries to work up to about 45 mph, then quits after that. Yesterday I got it up to 60 mph and it was working, the TCC lockup kicked in, and it stopped working, with shut down the TCC lockup. I am no mechanic, but I guess it almost sounds like the gears are good, until higher speeds (when they rotate faster) and thus most likely the gear on the sensor is slipping off just enough to cause it not to read at all.

Well, I got another new sensor to try out. I have not installed it yet, as I am ordering both new gears for it, might as well knock it all out at once.
