Re: 5 spd

Sounds like a slider hub problem to me. A common cause of this is a broken or missing key between the slider and hub. This causes the slider to be able to move freely in one direction, but jam up going the other way. There's usually 3 of these keys that rest in slots in the slider hub. They commonly break in half or fall out altogether, which causes the slider to bind up when trying to shift. Another possible cause could be really worn engagement teeth(the small teeth) on 3rd gear. These teeth are what locks the slider to the gear. Most often it's the keys though. The keys are a common failure point in the T56's since they're made of cheap, cast metal. They're commonly replaced with billet steel ones when one is built up for performance.

Re: 5 spd

Glad I read this as mine will no longer down shift into third. For years after I first purchased the car I could actually down shift very fast in all gears. Gotta fix this as I think it sux when one knows how it should be.
