700R4 shift linkage problems after v6 to v8 swap

I just finished my v6 to v8 swap. took my 2.8 with th200 auto out and dropped in a nice 355 with a 700R4 tranny. Everything mounted up just fine. Only problem is with shift linkage. The cable keeps pulling itself apart when I go through the gears. This even happend 2 or 3 times before I did the swap. What is causing this? Is it the shifter itself? The cable? any help would be greatly appreciated. ASAP as well cause I just got her running today and am dieing to get her on the road. Thanks so much in advance

what is it doing exactly... pulling itself apart.... I dont know what you mean... is it coming off the trans? seperating from the shifter? sliding in the gear selector arm?

Re: 700R4 shift linkage problems after v6 to v8 swap

Ok a little more detail is that the cable pulls from its sleeve either at the top or at the bottom. I figured out why it was pulling apart, it is because the tab where the cable attaches on my shifter was bent. I got a different shifter from the junk yard and it seems to be working now. Only problem now is that the ears on the cable on the top side weren't flanging out so I helped them by wedging them out a bit but I think they will break in time. How can I correct this short of buying a new cable and hoping for better luck next time. Thanks.
