Torque Converter
How do you know when your torque converter is goin out or has totally gone out? Becuase i have a th350 that wont do anything. doesnt even have reverse. i was told that if it was a borken sprag it would have reverse. Plus before it totally went out it was making a noise like wet shoes on a tile floor, when the tranny was cool if that helps any.it would only make that noise in reverse or drive not while it was just idling. Please help.

You may have done some damage. After the first race of the season I destroyed the sprag in my TH350. I didn't realize it until after the end of the second race. During the second race I had no manual 2. Putting it in drive, it only shifted twice. Finally I had no forward or reverse. When I pulled the pan I saw the parts from the sprag. A piece got into the pump and seized it up also preventing hydraulic pressure to move the car. As soon as I lost power I shut off the engine. It's a good thing because without the pump working I almost seized the converter shaft to the pump. It's possible that you've done the same thing. I picked up a used tranny from the junk yard and switched over all the hard parts that I broke. The clutches were still new so I reused them. It cost me $50 in parts to fix it and I ran the rest of the season with this quick rebuild.
