Check the tech articles on here, there is one that describes it in detail.

I just finished the swap myself. Here are the websites I used for info:
http://icdweb.cc.purdue.edu/~trull/tranny.html

If you have any specific questions email me.
You will need a starter from a LT1 Camaro/Firebird. The hardest part is
installing the clutch assy and getting in the right place. Other than
that the install went fairly smooth. I can give you part numbers from
GM for all the wiring connectors if your tranny doesn't come with them,
and the numbers for varios bolts and stuff. Good luck, you'll love
shifting 6 gears.

You can reuse your 3rd gen starter. However it will require some light grinding on the nose, for a smooth fit into the bellhousing.
