having a 700 rebuilt
hey guys i have an 84 z28 with the 700 tranny. it has around 230,000 miles on it and its starting to get tired. i was looking at having it rebuilt, but recently came across a free 700 out of another 84 z28. so, im going to be having that one rebuild. soooo, question is: im having just the tranny rebuilt then im going to put it in the car myself. so, 1. what things should i replace such as mounts etc, that wont be done by the tranny shop. 2. what are some low price upgrades that i could ask them to do while the trannys out. im just trying to do it right while i have it out of the car. thanks!!!

You could upgrade to a Corvette servo for starters. A mild shift kit could be installed. There's another modification to the TV valve in the valve body to modify the line pressure. A Kevlar band and high quality racing friction discs move you up the $$ chain. It's when you get into the 5 gear planetaries the cost skyrocket.
I just rebuilt my 700R4 in my '85 IROC, and blew the front planetary. With the basic overhaul kit and torque conveter was about $250.00. I believe that includes the 'Vette servo and shift kit. It still shifted great after the planetary blew!
