Broke the transmission mount 2.8 V6 T-5...
Hey guys, I went to pick the girlfriend up today in the f-bird.. Fairly wet roads, and a very humid day. Anyway, on my way home, I shifted in to second at roughly 3400 RPM and it chirped the tires (Very unusual, I'm using Michelin Pilot X's that are like bubble gum) Then I heard the transmission bounce off the floor. The whole ride home, it continued to bounce off of the floor aswell. So, My question is, how much work is it to change the tranny mount?
Re: Broke the transmission mount 2.8 V6 T-5...
I have a question to add to this. Mine is broken also and I can't find one like it. The one i got from the parts store is wrong. The one I got from the store has two holes that would mount to the transmission and a stud on the other end that would mount to the crossmember but mine has a plate thing that is part of the mount. My crossmember is made with a big hole in the middle so I can't use the new mount. Anyone know what the heck this mount is? Mine is a 1989 Firebird SSA with the 2.8L V6 and the 5 speed. Thanks

I have decided to change the crossmember to one that will use the cheaper more available mount instead of the stupid mount that no parts store has.
To reply to the original question by Kevman, it is really easy to change. Jack the car up. Set some jack stands under the car so it doesn't fall on you. Put a jack under the tranny and jack it up enpugh to support it then take the tranny mount bolts and nuts loose then remove the crossmember bolts and pull it all out.

Sounds like a secondary cross member. Check the following link:

I've purchased both poly (Summit), which I'm not using, and OE (dealership).

Thanks for the link. No my crossmember has a big hole in the middle where the actual mount bolts up and the mount goes through the hole. I think someone called it some kind of fluid dmper or something. All I know is it didn't make sence to design it the way they did when all it needed was a solid crossmember with a poly mount in between the crossmember and the tranny.
Thanks
