700R4 can it be built to last

well my 89 formula 350 has just started to act up, when im going down the road and im in top gear, i have a auto, sometimes the tranny will just slip out of gear, so i put it in netural and pop it back into drive,i do think my tranny mount is about gone, not banging but tranny feels loose, any comments on what might be causing the problem , and if it is my tranny going bad, whats the strongest 700r4 that can be built, im going on my 2 transmisson, and its getting old, i want to keep the 700r4 becuase of overdrive, but in the future im looking at a 406 supercharged car, pushing atleast 500 poines, so is there any hope for rebuilding the 700r4 to withstand the abuse,

Definitly, www.pro-built.net has nice 700R4 tranny's and give different HP rateings for each. I didn't go with pro built, but i've heard very very good things about them. Plus they'll take your old transmission as a core.

89 IROC-Z 350 TPI

-Flowmaster Catback
-Performance Resource Chip
-Rebuilt 700R4 Tranny
With the goodies to go

-K&N Airfilters
-Ported Plenum
-2.77 Gears (not much to brag about but eh, its there)
