THM 700-R4 kick-down shift valve part no. question?

I'm a little confused on the actual part no. of the "correct" 700-R4 shift valve that allows the trans to shift into 4th gear at WOT. First, some on this board mentioned that they needed to "trim" the valve sleeve in order to make it fit. Is this true? Second, some have mentioned that there are different shift valve part numbers for the various 700-R4s produced through the years. Since my '89 GTA was built in 3/89, what particular shift valve part # would I need? Third, once the trans pan is dropped, it's just an R&R procedure. Right? Thanks.

The correct part number should be 8673948. It is from the B4C package. I purchased the part from GM for about $15 dollars but have yet to install it as I can find no reliable instructions. If anyone has any, please post them.
