What gear ratio?

How do you read the numbers on GM gears to tell what they are? Like the number on the top of the pinion or the side of the ring gear? Oh yeah 10 bolt

you'll see a ratio after the part number, such as 11:41 divide 41 by 11 and you have a 3:73. the 11 is the number of teeth on the pinion and the 41 is the number of teeth on the ring gear.
