I just finished putting my car back together after replacing the clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, clutch fork, flywheel and the slave cylinder. It is a 1985 Trans Am. While the car was still in the air, and after everything underneath was connected I decided to start it up to make sure everything was working. Problems ensued. With the clutch pedal all the way depressed, It is harder than normal to put the car in gear and the wheels spin. When the car is in gear, and I press the clutch pedal, the wheels continue to spin. There is also a knocking sort of noise coming from the transmission-bellhousing area. The slave cylinder was bled, and the plastic straps are not yet broken
Please help, I've been without my car for too long now.

 

Update:

I'm sure that everything is in working order aside from my clutch hydraulics. The slave cylinder is new. I bled the system many times yesterday with a friend. We did let the reservoir empty once, but after that we must've gone through the bleeding process about twenty times. Everytime I cracked the alan screw, a burst of DOT 3 mist came out. How much air can I expect to come out. A lot comes out every time, and none goes back in. It just keeps coming out, time after time. Twice we got the pedal to firm up and disengage the clutch but within a few applications, it was back to nothing. Any suggestions at all? I'm at a stand still.

 

is the throw out bearing install correctly on the clutch fork. also , mine had the same problem. my clutch for was off the pivot ball. had to pull onn fork and it popped in place, instant easy clutch.

 

Thanks man, I'm going to go try that now. Does anybody have a picture of the t/o bearing installed on the fork? I'm pretty sure it's on right, I can see inside the bellhousing with the fork boot pulled back and see the pressure plate moving a decent amount.

 

I think you need to re bleed your clutch. Don't take that allen screw out to bleed it that isn't even helping to get the air out of the slave. Take the slave loose from the bell housing and remove that plastic strap if it hasnt broke yet. Then with the slave hanging by the hose hold it at a 45* angle to the ground and slowly push the pushrod in and let it out until there are no more bubbles coming out of the reservoir. Be sure to hafve a friend handy to keep that resevoir full while your doing it. This shouldnt take but a few minutes and your clutch should be good to go. That is the simplest way to do it and be sure all the air is out. $.02

Did you ever figure out what the noise was. I did the same with my car and I'm getting a noise (Bang sound) when I depress the clutch just before the pedal is all the way out.

I did the bleading at a 45 degree angle. That worked great....
