i have 2.73's in my car now. will it gain me that much if i put 3.43's in it? i thought about putting 3.73's in but i like good gas milage.

Yes! I read an artice from 1987 (was like C&D or Motor Trend, cant remember which off hand) that said the 3.42 was half a second faster 0-60mph then the 2.73 equiped. I suggest adding a posi while your at it.
