Gears and Positraction

I have a 1992 camaro rs with a 305 v8. It has 2.73 gears and no positraction in it right now. I want to put 3.73 and a positraction in it. I have no idea what i need or where to get it. I've had people tell me that i need a new case and other things.I also dont
know the number of bolts or size of gears and
positraction i need. I also dont now if i need an instalation kitbeacause im having a mechanic do it. Please let me know as many specs and information as possible.

Well, you do need a 3-series carrier if you were to get new posi internals like an auburn or torsen unit by SLP. Or, You could put 3.73's in yours which are made to fit a 2-series carrier, but you wouldn't have posi traction. You could also find the internals from a 2-series posi and get gears for it, but that isn't worth it. I would suggest that you find a 3-series carrier with the gears you want or something close. You might also be able to get a 3-series posi unit that's fried and just buy the brand new auburn posi internal unit from SLP for 99$. The torsen (also posi traction)is 299$. Go to there website and check it out. They have instructions too.

I forgot - You want a ten bolt and yes, you will need an installation kit.

I had the same rear end, all i did is get the unit from SLP(it looked freaking new for a used posi) and got 3.42 "3" series gears and everything fit perfectly, i even used the old bearings and shims and everything worked flawlessly. 10000 miles later and everything is fine. I love the posi is strong and it feels alot like a locker unit, practically no delay in engagement.
