The whole axle? Sure. If both axles have disc brakes, then re-use your '88's calipers, they're probably in better shape. Replace all the brake hoses and e-brake cables while you're at it. If you search the internet thru http://www.yahoo.com or similar for "carparts.com coupon", you can usually find some big savings. I used a $50 off $100 purchase coupon, and got all of my 86/3.42/open/drum to 84/3.73/posi/disc brake hardware for $60!
If your '88 doesn't have discs you need the prop valve and master cylinder for the J65 (4wheeldisc) setup.

The 84 has drums? I thought the only 3.73/drum axle had an open diff, not a posi.
