Will SLP take off posi units work with my open 3:73s?

I have a 1992 Formula G92. I had the 3:42 posi rear in there stock until I broke it in half (long story). Anyway, I picked up a 10 bolt 3:73 open disc rear off a buddy of mine and it's installed. Will SLP's take off posi unit work with this?

Heres SLPs info on it:
1999 CAMARO / FIREBIRD OEM REPLACEMENT ZEXEL-TORSEN
POSI-TRACTION DIFFERENTIAL

Fits: 1989-2000 Camaro / Firebird w/ manual or automatic transmission. This is a 3 series carrier for a GM 10 bolt rear.

Part # 64501T $99.95

Now I remember my father tried swapping my old 3:42s into my new rear but he couldnt do it because the axles were smaller on my new rear? (does that make sense?)

Also, how do you tell how many splines you have? Does it matter with this take off unit?
thanks guys.

slp says it'll fit. would your problem of been with axle splines? they used 26 spline axles untill 88 i think and then went to 28 spline axles.

Thanks guys. I need to know if this is a 2 series carrier or 3? HOw do I find out?

I checked today and it is definitely 3:73s. It originially came off a 1982 Trans Am I'm told. Says it was on the car when he got it.

They changed the axle splines where they fit into the carrier in the 88-89 time frame. Starting in 88, the 28-spline units began to appear; by late 89 production all 26-spline ones were gone.

If the rear you want to put the SLP take-off into is from 82, then the axles that came in it will not work with that posi.

However, if you still have your 92 piece, you can take its axles out and use them in the 82 rear, with the SLP posi.

You'd probably have to find a rear end at the junkyard, or otherwise Moser sells them at about $225 a pair for a much better piece than the stock ones. Some of the other axle people (Strange, Summers, etc.) might make you some up as a custom for somewhat more than that.
