Will a 10bolt rear fit a 9bolt car???

As long as it was from another Camaro and had the same rear brakes? My IROC has the 2.77 BW rearend. My mechanic said try and find a 10bolt out of a camaro. I know the gear choices are more plentiful, but is the 10 bolt as strong as the BW axle? My car doesn't have big hp, probably never will.

pulling valve covers or manifolds.
Also with stock 2.77 rear end!!!

All third gen diffs are externally identical. They all have mounting hardware in the same locations. The 10 bolt can be made stronger than stock with a few changes and modifications. I forgot Dan's web page telling how to do it.

I kind of figured that the 9bolt is stronger than a 10bolt. But it costs some big bucks to change out a 2.77BW gear to a 3.42. If I could find a complete 9bolt rear end with discs and 3.42s, I would go for it, as long as the cost is reasonable.

My mechanic says a 10bolt could handle some decent power. I don't plan on making 400Hp right away!!!!!!
