I have been hearing alot about the aluminum driveshafts on the 1Le, are they widely available, if so where and how much? is it worth the expense?

Don't know the price, but benefits include less weight, less rotational mass, reduction in vibration, and faster engine spool up.

Zedder,

I sell the alum shaft frequently on this board, $155 shipped, money order, certified check, or PayPal. I'll have one in in the next few days (I have one currently, should the deal fall through). I noticed you're from Canada. I also have a metric 240km/145 mph speedo--like NEW, with 12.7 k showing on the odometer, $125 shipped. Pics available.

It was worth it to me b/c it eliminated my vibrations above 100mph !

I picked mine up from a wrecked 89 IROC-Z
for very cheap...around $20 but I did have to put new u-joints in it. A lot of IROC-Z w/ 350's came with aluminum shafts and they didn't have the 1LE goodies (brakes, ect).

Badbird,

Congrats, you got the deal of the century at around $20! Apparently, whoever you bought from didn't have a clue.

It cured my vibration problem, I trade a ice cream cone for mine and did not have to replace a thing, it still has the gm part number on it and that is paper.

I bought a new one out of a 4th gen for $75. After I switched to a six speed, I had picked up a vibration from the stop shaft. Once I changed to the aluminum shaft, it went away.
