firstly does this look like the remnants of a broken reverse light switch, i think i already know the answer.

Also wondering what this connector coming out of the shifter is for.



and this is part of the cars wiring harness, its in the same piece of wire loom as the electric speedo connector
theres 3 pins going into the connector, whats it for?

 

Its because your car was originally auto, Doug.

The big white connector is for the 700-r4's torque converter clutch lock-up.

The black one coming out of the shifter hole looks like the VSS connector.

The connector on the tranny itself with the 2 threaded male ends just looks like a different pig-tailed setup that TKO used for that trans.

You'll just need to either switch the reverse switch out for one from the likes of a stock T5 so its plug and play, or you'll need an adapter bung to plug into the tranny than plug the stock connector into it.

i found a schematic that says thats where the reverse connection should be, but found another pic of a tko and it looks the same there. Id swear on my life ive seen this connector on the side of the transmission but cant see it anywhere



id guess the connector in the second pic is for NSS but im not sure.

and now i have another problem
the vss connector on the trans asks for a connecter like the stock one in the first pic with ears on both sides.

the first sensor in for the reverse lights, a second sensor came with my TKO that used a weather pack end instead of the 2 screws.

2nd pic, IIRC is the neutral safty switch

there is a ford speedo sensor on the trans, i forget exactly where, there is also a hole for a gm speed sensor.

that yellow ended connector you are holding was also sent to me when when i called and asked for the speedo pigtail, its a ford pigtail and its not the right one, send it back and ask for the other one, with the weatherpack type end

ugg, its been a year since i wired mine and i dont remember exactly whats what, you going to make me get under my car and look arn't you.....

give me an hour or so, i will get some pics and a list of whats what for you

 

wow this is so much fun, okay so if its a ford sensor on the trans, why does the ford pigtail not work?

so when i send it back what do i ask for from them so i can hook up the little yellow and little purple wires for my speedo signal to?

lol youre too good to me altho im not sure what youre checking for how its wired. I was going to ask which side of the connector do the yellow and purple wires go, but since its the wrong connector...ugh im lost

so i guess for the reverse lights i also need to order that sensor i put a pic of since mine didnt come with that, and then i just pull out the one thats on it and replace it with the one with the weather pack connection.

or could i just wire up the reverse light wires to the threaded bars? i dont get how those work

your first pic is the reverse lights, though like i said i had a second switch and pigtail come with my trans that used a weatherpack 2 pin connector that i used instead.

second pic is the neutral safty. I forgot already but i think i cut the end off and just wired it straight together.

the sensor on the passengerside is the ford speedo sender, it used a 90 degree angled plug, not a weatherpack, thats where that funny blue and yellow should go, but like i said its the wrong end. When i called i told them i got the wrong end and he knew what the right one was.

now keep in mind, the ford speedo sender uses a much higher PPM signal that your stock speedo wants, if you have an electric speedo. You will need a dakota digital converter box to fix that


You dont need to order the other backup light switch, the one you have will work, i just dont like the idea of the terminals exposed to the elements like that.

ya yours also came with the reverse connector that i put up a pic of. ill just have to figure out which wire goes to which prong, although trial and error can work that out for me. And i dont care about them being exposed because i dont care at all about them, i need this done so i can pass a safety inspection.

thats how i planned on doing the NSS too, not sure which wire goes to which side either but ill figure that out as well

for the speedo ill call them about that tommorow, i have the DD box and everything just apparently the wrong connector. I hope they know what im talking about. And again just going to have the same issue of figuring out which coloured wire goes to which side of the connector.

only thing im worried about is that i might have damaged the prongs inside the sensor by putting the wrong pigtail in it, it went in pretty easy tho so i sure as hell hope not

 

Btw, the reverse light switch on the TKO's is a Ford style switch too. If you want the right connector/pigtail for it, just go to a junkyard and check under a couple of Ford cars with manual trannys. Or you can probably get it from Fortes if you don't mind spending the money for it.

 

fortes sells it....but i didnt realize i can just wire it to the post connector and it will work, im going to do that because i only care about it working long enough to get an out of province inspection done on it.

For the vss pigtail the issues seems they like to send the GM pigtail out, even though i told them it was for a third gen application, and they use the ford version for the third gens, talked to mike tho and the correct pigtail went out today, so thats all you can really ask for.

only thing im wondering is how i figure out which side of the connector each of the yellow and purple wires goes to, id really rather not have to jack it up twice because im working on the car in a parking lot.

 

Hey Doug, I honestly don't think it matters which wire goes on what terminal. The way the switch works is it basically just bridges two hot leads and completes the circuit when it's activated. In fact, now that I think about it, the safety neutral switch acts the same way. That's why you can just splice the two wires together on that one and bypass it. Of course, if you did that with the reverse switch, your backup lights would be on all the time. Lol. Nevermind. I just realized you're probably talking about the wires for the VSS, not the reverse lights right?

 

i was talking about the vss sensor

wasnt sure for the reverse either but i can check if thats right without having to put the car back on the ground so thats an easy check.

thanks for the input on the VSS and the NSS im not going to hook up to the trans but the switch on the pedal, makes more sense to me
