Axle Splines on 86 Camaro

HOw can i figure out if i have 26 or 28 spline axles without taking the rear-end cover off? IT is an 86 camaro rear-end out of a 2.8v-6 with 3.42 gears. Also i'm thinking about buying a auburn OEM posi-takeoff off the internet. it is off a 4th gen camaro. would it work inside my rear-end? thanks for the help

Should be a 26 spline, so no your axles won't work with the 28 spline posi. you can just get new axles too tho. .

If you can't find some 28 spline axles from a 90-92 then you can get a set of aftermarket ones from drivetraindirect part number KAC7-A7

$125 each.

They are basically race axles. Non tapered shafts. The flange is drilled for 1/2" screw in studs. I'm sure it also has holes for stock press in type studs. They'll work with disk or drum brakes.

You'll need a 28 spline carrier to use them. I first just tryed some 28 spline side gears but the axles won't fit in the 26 spline carrier itself. You can drill the hole out to 1 1/4" or just get the whole 28 spline carrier. Either find one from a 90 and up f-body or S-10/S-15 or get the SLP Torsen carrier.

Not bad, considering Dal wanted $200 each stock GM.
