Transmission Reinstall Questions...

I'm going to be installing my rebuilt automatic transmission back into my '89 IROC this weekend and just had a couple of questions before I embark...

1. I am replacing the original torque converter with a rebuilt one. Does the orientation of the torque converter relative to the flexplate matter?

2. Are there any special break-in procedures that I need to be aware of after I get everything back in? Currently the transmission is fresh from the rebuilder on my garage floor and I would imagine it's bone-dry; obviously it needs fluid. I'll fill up the torque converter as best as I can before putting it in. After fluid is in, is it just a matter of starting it up and driving?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Transmission Reinstall Questions...

fill 1 quart of tranny fluid into the torque converter.. make sure the tranny has fluid in it .. then just install the torque converter on the tranny making sure it locks in to the pump. as far as bolting it up to the flex plate make sure the tranny is in neutral so that you can easily turn the torque converter to match up with the flexplate bolt holes

doesn't matter what gear it is in, it will not effect the amount of effort to turn the torque converter. nothing in the tranny will be applied.
