Will a T-5 and 9-bolt hold 500+ hp?
Just like the question says, will a T-5 and a Australian 9-bolt hold up to 500+ horsies? (somehow, i know what you're all gonna say)

You know there is another thread I think in this section that talks about the T5 and what it can hold. Personallly I would not **** around with the T5 and expecting it to hold 500hp...go with a T56 or some other aftermarket tranny. Even if you plan on driving it as a normal daily driven street car......its not going to happen when you are trying to put 500hp through the T5, syncros (sp?) will be the first thing to go...your rear end will be just find, also considering what type of clutch you put in there.

If you go to the track with the T-5 in there, be sure to have another ride home.

) Surely you're not racing this too seriously or you probably wouldn't be asking this question. That said, sure it will hold up. You just gotta MAKE it work by driving like you don't want to hurt the tranny. You can break it at will (probably can do it with a 305). Since you don't want to break it, don't abuse it.

The 9 bolt might last for awhile, but bring your cell phone with.

that's pretty impressive. i'm sticking to my guns though, treat it right and it'll last... if you want it too. I built gearboxes for cars making 650+ hp and lord knows how much torque. if the driver screwed up, it would break. (granted i'm not talking about t5's here) when the driver treated it right it would live through a race (100 miles). in any case the gearbox will be your weakest link.

So far so good with my T-5 and 9 bolt, but i'm just using drag radials. A Tremec is on the way.

Like the others have said, you would be better off with a T-56, or RICHMOND. If you reduced the car weight 300-400 pounds, your t-5/9-bolt would have a better chance at survival. Weight is key to that relatively weak gearbox working. I have a mustang buddy with a 2950 pound car with a 306/T-5 and he runs 7.80 in the 1/8 mile. He launches that thing at 5000 rpm's on slicks. On the street, he launches at 4000 rpm's on DR's. HTH's
