Shift Points How to change?
I have a 1992 Camaro RS with the 700R4 trans and I am currently building a hotter motor, but the stock shift points are at around 5000 rpms due to the original 305 motor. I would like to raise the shift points to as follows: from 1 st to 2 nd 5750 rpm's, and from 2 nd to 3rd 5400 rpms. I do not want to manually shift the trans because I race and I would like to have the utmost consistancy because it is E.T. racing. Is there springs or something that I can remove like the Th 350 or is there more to it? I need help!!!! Thanks in advance.

Well i don't know if your car is equipped with an elect. trans or not but i have changed the shift points on my 700R4 by changing springs and govenor weights. This changed the shift points the same amount in all gears though.

Doesn't the chip take care of that? I thought it did, if it does, drop Ed Wright (Fastchip.com) a line at http://www.fastchip.com

Well the part# on my B&M shift kit is #20236 but i bought that kit in 84 or 85 so they may of changed the no. This kit works for TH-350,400 and 700R4. I am still useing this kit. I wrote down the specs. for my 84 Z28 and they are as follows for a 6000 rpm shift point.
Weights = #2 & #5 = 18.4 grams
Springs = Purple & Red
I also made a note that -(1) gram increased the rpm 400. If you had a gram scale you could raise your shift points without a kit. You can do this mod with the trans in the car but it is tight. To make it easier i remove the trans crossmember. Takes a little longer but you can do a better job. I put RTV on the gov. cover just to be sure. When you remove the gov. cover have a small drip pan for a small amount of ATF.
