Transmission/clutch chirp. Any ideas?

I have a 1990 manual transmission that chirps when the clutch is not depressed, in
neutral or in gear. But when I depress the clutch slightly, the chirp disappears. Any ideas on what needs to be adjusted and how would be appreciated

That would be the throwout bearing. No adjustment is possible. It needs a new one.

Thanks for the reply. That's depressing news, though. I had the clutch replaced 45,000 miles ago,I thought the bearing would last longer than that. I assume this is a major operation?

the T/O bearing itself isnt a big deal. Just pull the trans and the shift fork. Make sure you inspect everything while you are in there including the pilot bushing
