please help w/700R4 3-4 clutch clearance?

i am in the final stages of my TH700R4 rebuild.but i cannot seem to get the 3-4 clutch clearance down to the reccomended .039"-.098". i have used the original steels with new clutches.the steels heve no wear at all.the only thing that i can figure out is that maybe the clearance was too much from, the factory.i have reaction plate #3. do i need to wait till monday and get a thicker plate from the dealer? i,ll email my phone# if i have to. trans techs please help

The plate that is next to the snap-ring and pushes down on the return springs is a selective backing plate. If you have too much freeplay, you need a thicker plate. If you don't have enough, you need a thinner plate. The local dealership may or may not have what you need in stock. You may be better off going to a tranny shop.

Make sure you did not leave out the 5-tang retainer, it installs first. If you are running the 553 servo keep the clearance closer to minimum, if the Corvette servo 093 is used then then go toward the middle of the recommended clearence. In the 1982 they used a .128 flat pressure plate on top of the 5-tang retainer. If you have any questions call me at 800 77632288 Mon-Sat 10-6 PST, and I will try to answer any questions you might have.
Glad Too Help!!!
