I have a 1986 Camaro that has a 700R4 trans with a B&M hammer shifter. I am going to make it a drag car only. On the B&M instructions it says to remove a bolt so it can be used to shift into 4th or OD. Can I put the bolt back in the shifter and only have 3 forward gears to shift and the rest of the shifter will be neutral reverse and park and omit the OD shift.

 

its possible, but why?
leave the capability for fourth and just dont use it.

i think what the instructions provide is a way to "cut out" the 6th position, so what you would end up with is no "p" and n(d)d321 working... not good.
