T5 situation and resulting questions
Okay, when in neutral there is a whirring/chattering sound, this is normal right? When I push on the clutch it goes away. Normal, right? When I let off of the clutch, the chattering sound comes back. Why? What is it that makes that chattering sound? That is the sound I've been experiencing in my first gear lately, if you've happened to glance through my other posts. What do you think I should check? an someone also please explain the different bearings to me? (Pilot, and throwout bearings only please.)
Thank You!

The whirring is the spinning of the gears in the trans. The pilot bushing is in the back of the crankshaft...the input shaft rides in it; There is relative motion at the pilot/input shaft when the clutch is disengaged (pedal down). The throwout bearing is what disengages the clutch throught the pressure plate. These sometimes make noise when the clutch is in and other times when it is out.

I figured out a way to describe the noise, sort of. Does anyone remember the Chipmunks? It sounds like the chipmunks laugh but slowed down a bit. That's the noise I'm getting in first gear on top of this neutral noise.
