Trans wont shift out of first

I have an 87 Trans am with a 700r4 trans. It will go into all the gears while stopped, but once your going forward in drive it wont shift out of 1st and if it tries to it will go into neutral and then go back again. I've tried manually shifting it to the next gear starting out in 1st and that wont work either. The TV cable is connected and adjusted properly and the vacuum line from the trans to the carb is also connected. I'm thinking the front pump might be going, that the servo is shot, or there's something wrong with the valve body. I don't have alot of experience with transmission problems like this though so does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is?

There is no vacume line to a 700r4 . But agreed check you gov gears first little meta round cover toward rear of trans. If its not that you likley will be needing a trans

Re: Trans wont shift out of first

Thanks I recently got a used trans with 30k on it and installed a TCI trans kit and billet servo. Unfortunately the I didnt put the snap ring for the boost valve in far enough so it shifted funny and had no reverse at first, but all is good now.
