overfilling trans fluid...is it good for racing?
I read an article that recommended overfilling the trans fluid by 1 quart and using a deep pan to reduce the pickup from sucking in air and fluctuating the line pressure on harsh take offs (i.e. sub 12 second race cars) does this sound right? If so, who makes a good pan?
Thanks
Steve
Thanks

if you ran a deep pan you'd have to run more atf. if you mean to go above the full mark i've never heard of it and don't think i'd do it. if i had problems with shifting then i might start looking for a fix.

No, its not good for racing, but it is good for tearing your stuff up. Its just like overfilling the engine. When the oil level contacts rotating parts, it gets "whipped up" with air and becomes foamy. That air displaced oil and is a sure fire way to really damage some internal components. If you run a deeper pan (as if our cars don't sit low enough) you will need extra fluid, but NEVER go above the "full" mark on the dipstick.
As for starving the filter on acceleration, the filter rests on the bottom of the pan, I doubt that accelerating hard will cause that much fluid to leave the pan.
