9-BOLT carrier housing...HOW DO YOU GET IT THE HELL OUT?!?!

I need to take out my 9-bolt posi unit to ship to someone who wants to buy it from me. But im having trouble removing it!! i have the rear in my backyard and opened it up today and could only get the two clamps held on by two bolts that hold the unit into the rear by where the axleshafts go into the unit. I cant find a way to get them loose. I know on my 10 bolt in my 87 GTA there is a bolt and a pin you have to pop out but i dont see anything like this visible on the 9 bolt unit. I do see a pin possibly on the unit but its hiding on the unit underneath the gears. I tryed loosesnig the bolts on the gears but they wont budge especially since the rear isnt stabalized and it flopping all over the f'n place (even with my friend sitting on it and holding it down with a crowbar)Anyway, i just want to know how to remove the damn thing and pop it out cuz someone is giving me good money for the parts. So if anybody that knows how to do so, please let me know, it will be greatly appreciated....THanx!

Joe

Joe, by the way that person is me. I have two books on this; my 1985 firebird dealer sevice manual and a chiltons. The dealers manual says this. 1. Remove bearing caps and bolts. Identify bearing caps with paint. the bearing caps are not interchangable. 2. The differential assembly (carrier or posi)is worked out of the housing by putting a box wrench on ring gear bolt. (remeber the bolts are left hand threads) The box wrench contacts back of the housing when companion flange (the thing that the driveshaft attaces to) is rotated with tool J-8614-01. Since this is a dealer tool you will just have to find something else to use to turn it or maybe auto zone will rent it out. When differential assembly rotates out of the housingfrom pinion rotation the shims will also come out. The shims and bearing caps location, left or right, must be identified for reassembly. 3. remove differential assembly from carrier. The chiltions only adds that the drive axles must be removed(this is by using an axle removing tool and a slide hammer. The removing tool looks kinda like a harmonic balencer tool Y shaped and bolts to 3 of the tire studs. I beliee you can get this rented from Auto zone too. Auto zone only requires a deposit and the give you all the money back so you rent it for free. Also the chiltions adds that the bearing outer races need to be marked left and right sides. When you ship the parts put them in a zip lock bag marked left and right so I don't get confused. Thanks. Hope this helps ... Erik

Oh yeah I forgot to mention on removing the axles you have to remove the 4 nuts attaching the brake anchor plate and outer bearing retainer to the axle housing as wel as any brakes compontents if you have them on there (calipers rotors) Also there is a tech article on this site on how to service a 9 bolt limited slip unit by shimming it. Although it is for shimming the posi to make it work after it has been worn out it also tells you how to remove it. Here is the web address : https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/t...tservice.shtml If this does not work after typing it in I found this article under tech section - generial repairs - Servicing 9-Bolt (Borg-Warner) Limited Slip Units. Also don't forget to label those parts left and right or I will have to get all new ones. Thanks .... Erik
